Slawomir Wozniak
Slawomir Wozniak is
the principal dancer with the Theatre Wielki in Warsaw,
Poland. He began his early training in the Warsaw school
with teachers from Bolshoi and Kirov schools in Russia.
A graduate of the Poznan ballet school, Mr. Wozniak
became a soloist in the Wroclaw Opera Ballet in 1986.
After moving to the Grand Theatre in Lodz, Mr. Wozniak
received the title of principal dancer in 1989. In 1991
he joined the Grand Theatre in Warsaw.
Mr. Wozniak is the 1990 Bronze Medal recipient of the
prestigious New York City International Ballet
Competition, and the Bronze Medal recipient of the 1992
Japanese International Ballet Competition. He is the
recipient of the Wojcikowski Medal and the Wyspianski
Young Artists' Award (1991).
Together with the Warsaw ballet company, Mr. Wozniak has
performed in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium,
France, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Argentina, Brazil,
Cyprus, and Canada. Mr. Wozniak has also given
performances in Latvia, the United Kingdom, Finland, and
the United States. He is a judge of the Polish national
ballet competitions in Gdansk. Mr. Wozniak debuted as a
choreographer in 1998 in Warsaw, preparing a piece
called "Only Love…" to the music of Albioni. In November
2001 Slawomir debuted a ballet he choreographed about
the life of Nijinsky, with his son Slawomir Junior
dancing the role of Nijinsky as a child. The ballet
received enthusiastic reviews.
In May of 2002 Mr. Wozniak performed "Zorba the Greek"
at the Capitol Theatre, Australia. On May 27, 2002 Jill
Sykes, of the Sydney Morning Herald " wrote in her
review "…Wozniak's lyrical style is a joy to watch."
Dancing the role of John in Lorca Massine's "Zorba the
Greek", Mr. Wozniak was nominated "Sensation of the Year
1992" by Dance Magazine in France. During the summer of
2002 Mr. Wozniak performed with the Warsaw Ballet in
"Romeo and Juliet" in Montreal Canada - with extended
performances due to rave reviews.
Mr. Wozniak's repertoire includes performing the lead
male parts in Warsaw in "Swan Lake", "Giselle", "The
Nutcracker", "The Sleeping Beauty", "La Gitane", and
"Romeo and Juliet". He has danced the parts of
D'Artagnan, Aramis, and Athos in "The Three Musketeers"
by Prokovsky, and Guido in "La Dolce Vita" by Zofia
Rudnicka.
In 2003 Mr. Wozniak was a great success dancing the
title part in Boris Eifman's ballet "Tchaikovsky - The
Mystery of Life and Death". On opening night May 15,
2004, at the Warsaw premier of "La Bayadere", (directed
and choreographed by the famous Russian dancer Natalia
Makarova - assistant choreographer Cynthia Harvey), Mr.
Wozniak danced the role of Solor. The following night,
May 16, he performed the role of the Golden Idol. Again,
both performances met with great success.
Mr. Wozniak comes from a theatrical family in Warsaw. He
is married to Irena Wozniak, a ballerina in the Theatre
Wielki. They are the parents of two boys. This is the
sixteenth year Mr. Wozniak has danced with Ballet &
Friends' production of Nutcracker.
SUGAR PLUM FAIRY
& SNOW QUEEN
Therese Miyoshi Wendler
Ms. Wendler was
born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Therese received her ballet
training from Nina Marlow in Phoenix, Arizona. The
Joffrey Ballet Program brought Ms. Wendler to NYC. Since
then, she has worked with Ballet Metropolitan of
Caracas, in Venezuela, Albany Bershire Ballet, Ballet
International in Indianapolis, Indiana, Ballet Hawaii,
Victoria Ballet Theatre, Connecticut Ballet, Brookoff
Dance Repertory Company, and Ballet Jorgen Toronto
Ms. Wendler has worked intensely with Elena Kunikova,
Diana Cartier, and Irina Koplakova. Therese has also
performed for choreographers Frances Patrelle, Matthew
Brookoff and Rebecca Kelly in NYC. While performing "I'm
in Love" with the Brookoff Dance Repertory Company Miss
Wendler was reviewed by Alicia Mosier - "Wendler gets a
vivacious solo that showcases her quick attack, great
jumps, and high temperament."
In 1996, Ms. Wendler was a semi-finalist in the New York
City International Ballet Competition, coached by
Cynthia Gregory. In 2002, Therese danced in the
International Fringe Dance Festival in Toronto. She was
chosen to perform in Ballet Builders Choreography on
Pointe in NYC where she worked with Oksana Konobeyeva
and other soloists of American Ballet Theater in a
production of Paquita.
Currently working with Rebecca Kelly Ballet, Therese
performed at the Duke 42nd Street, and at the Lake
Placid Center for the Arts - Rebecca Kelly's summer
residence. Miss Wendler is currently working on the
title role in Rebecca Kelly's Carmen.

Spanish
|
Kristen Locker
Kristen is a seventeen-year-old senior at Scottsdale
Christian Academy. She has been dancing with MBT for the
past 10 years. She has performed the roles of
Polichenelle, Child Act I, Clara, Harlequin Doll, Waltz
and Snow Corps, Maid, Spanish, Chinese and last year
delighted audiences as the sultry Arabian. This year
Kristen will be dancing the lively role of Spanish. She
enjoys singing and is in the honor choir at school. On
graduation she hopes to get a degree in psychology and
be an animal trainer at Sea World.
Katherine Ramsey
Katherine is a sixteen-year-old, home schooled 11th
grader. She has studied with Nina Marlow for the past 7
years and was a Child Act I in her first Nutcracker with
MBT. She has danced the solo roles of Chinese and
Spanish.
Miss Ramsey has gotten medals and trophies in Scottish
Highland Dancing. She was a gold medalist at the Jazz &
Ragtime Festival and received honorable mention at the
Arizona Piano Festival. Katherine plans to get a degree
in nursing and teach ballet.
David Authement
David will reprise the role of President Silberhouse
and King Mouse in his fourth Nutcracker production this
year. David has danced the demanding partnering role of
Arabian and last year danced a lively rendition of
Spanish which he will repeat this year. Mr. Authement
teaches percussion for Desert Mountain High School
marching band and was a member of the world champion
Santa Clara Vanguard drum line in 1998. David is an
up-and- coming member of Marlow Ballet Theatre. |
Arabian
|
Emilienne Salisz
Emilienne has been dancing with MBT for the past 6
years and is a 9th grade student at Veritas Prep Academy
who has won 1st place in district and 2nd place in state
in the National Reflection Competition in writing. She
also has played the piano for 7 years and won superior
ratings in local district competitions. Miss Salisz is
sure to engage audiences in the sultry role of Arabian.
Wendell Duncan
Wendell Duncan is from Salt Lake City where he trained
with William Christensen and Conrad Ludlow. Wendell has
danced in numerous productions at the University of
Utah's Ballet Company and has been guest artist in
several operas and musicals. Audiences will be thrilled
with his masterful and acrobatic portrayal of Arabian.
We are very fortunate to have Wendell return this year. |
Chinese
|
Anna Sears
Anna is a 14 year old freshman honor student at Veritas
Preparatory Academy where she is on the yearbook
committee and likes playing volleyball. Anna has danced
the roles of Gnome, Polichenelle, Mouse, Child Act I,
Angel, Harlequin Doll, Waltz & Snow Corps and Clara.
This year she will delight audiences in the role of
Chinese.
Alison Yurcak
Alison has been dancing with MBT for the past six years.
She has performed the roles of Gnome, Soldier, Child Act
I, Angel and Waltz & Snow Corps. This year she will be
dancing the lively and charming role of Chinese. Miss
Yurcak is a 14-year-old honor student at Xavier College
Preparatory who hopes to become a professional
ballerina/actress.
Slawomir Wozniak Jr.
Slawomir Jr. is a fifteen-year-old student at the
National School of Ballet in Warsaw, Poland. He has been
studying at the school for 5 years and is in the 6th
level. He is preparing for the National Ballet
Competition in Gdansk in March 2005 as well as the
International Ballet Competition in Nagoya, Japan in
July 2005. He studies piano and loves movies and the
computer and also loves to play soccer.
Michael Wozniak
Michael is a fourteen year old student at the National
School of Ballet in Warsaw, Poland. He and his older
brother began their dance careers at the same time and
he is also in level 6 at the school. He will also be
going to both competitions in Gdansk and Nagoya, Japan
in 2005. He also studies piano and, as his older
brother, both boys dreams of being an even better dancer
than their father who is dancing the lead role as Snow &
Sugar Plum Cavalier. |
Russian

Armen
Hagopian
Originally from Armenia, Mr. Hagopian
received specialized training in character dance as well
as gypsy dancing, sword fighting and acrobatics. He
performs in many companies including Aspen Ballet and
Nevada Ballet Theater dancing the role of Russian. We
feel very fortunate to have a Russian dancer of his
caliber in our production. We are sure our audiences
will enjoy his exhilarating Russian |
Merleton
|
Jill Mahoney
Jill has been dancing with MBT for the
past six years. She has performed the roles of Child Act
I, Soldier, Mouse, Angel and Waltz and Snow Corps and
Chinese. This year she will be dancing the exacting role
of Merleton. Jill is a 15-year-old sophomore at Desert
Mountain High School where she is in the pre-I.B.
program and dances in the DMHS dance program. She hopes
to go into political science or law with a minor in
dance. |

Kelly Swenson
Kelly is a sixteen-year-old junior on
the honor roll at Shadow Mountain High School. She is a
member of student government, the National Charity
League and dances on the pom line. Kelly has studied
with Nina Marlow for the past 9 years performing roles
of Child in Act I, Harlequin Doll, Angel, Waltz of the
Flowers and Snow Corps. She has danced Dewdrop Fairy and
last year, Snow Queen. Miss Swenson will charm audiences
with her grace and beauty.
Dewdrop Cavalier
Christion Smalley
Christion grew up in San Diego,
California and danced under the direction of Sylvia
Palmer and Anita Ardalan at Black Mountain Dance Center.
He has also trained with Joffrey Ballet, ABT, Ballet
Austin and was a full time scholarship student at
Houston Ballet Academy for 2 years. After moving to
Phoenix, Christion began his studies under the direction
of Nina Marlow. For the last two years he was a company
member with Ballet Arizona and danced in such ballets as
Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, La Bayadere,
Prodigal Son and Slaughter on 10th Ave, to name a few.
We are excited to have Christion back at MBT performing
as Dewdrop Cavalier. |

Slawomir Wozniak
Slawomir is the principal dancer with

Therese Miyoshi Wendler
Therese began her
ballet training with Nina Marlow at the age of 6 and has
danced her way up through many roles, beginning with
Polichenelle, Angel, Chinese, Merleton, Waltz Dewdrop,
and finally danced Snow Queen and Arabian with Jim
Payne. Upon graduation, Miss Wendler joined Ballet Idaho
followed by Albany Berkshire Ballet and Ballet
Metropolitano de Caracas in Venezuela. She has also
danced for Ballet International in Indianapolis, Indiana
where she was coached by Irina Koplakova. In 1996 she
was a semi-finalist in the New York City International
Ballet Competition, where she was coached by Cynthia
Gregory. She has most recently danced for Connecticut
Ballet, Ballet Jorgen Canada in Toronto, and the 2002
International Fringe Dance Festival in Toronto. She was
also chosen to perform in Ballet Builders Choreography
on Pointe in NYC and had the opportunity to work with
Oksana Konobeyeva and other soloists of American Ballet
Theater in a production of "Paquita." We are all so
thrilled to have Therese return to dance with MBT again
as Sugar Plum with Slawomir Wozniak.

Swenson
Kelly is a 15 year old sophomore at

Ramsey
Katherine is a 15 year old, Home
Schooled 10th grader who plans to go to
college and major in Business to become 'best
woman I can be' She has studied with Nina Marlow
for the past 6 years and was a Child Act I in her first Nutcracker
with MBT. She danced the solo role of Chinese last year
and will excite audiences with her vivacious Spanish.
When not dancing with MBT, Katherine has received
awards in Competitive Highland Dancing and piano.
David
Authement
David has
been dancing with Marlow Ballet Theatre for just over 3
years and is reprising the role of President
Silberhouse and King Mouse in his third Nutcracker production. He has danced the demanding partnering role of Arabian.
This year David will please audiences with his lively
rendition of Spanish. Mr. Authement teaches percussion
for Desert Mountain High School marching band and was a
member of the World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard Drum
Line in 1998. We are grateful for David's commitment
to
Marlow Ballet Theatre.

Kristen
Locker
Kristen has been dancing with MBT
for the past 9 years. She has performed the roles of
Polichenelle, Child Act I , Clara, Harlequin Doll,
Waltz and Snow Corps, Maid, Spanish and last year
delighted audiences with her charming and lively
Chinese. This year Kristen will be dancing the sultry
role of Arabian. As a junior at Scottsdale Christian
Academy, she enjoys singing and this year went to NYC
to sing with her choir in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day
Parade.
Wendell Duncan
Wendell
Duncan is from Salt Lake City where he trained with
William Christensen and Conrad Ludlow. Wendell has
danced in numerous productions at the University of
Utah's
Ballet Company and has been guest artist in several
operas and musicals. Audiences will be thrilled with his
masterful and acrobatic portrayal of Arabian. We are
very fortunate to have Wendell returning
to MBT this year.

Jill
Mahoney
Jill has been dancing with Marlow
Ballet Theatre for the past 5 years. She has performed
the roles of Child Act I, Soldier, Mouse, Angel and
Waltz Corps. This year she will dance the lively and
charming role of Chinese. Jill is a 14 year old
Freshman at Desert Mountain High School where she is in
a pre I.B program and Desert Mountain Dance. She would
like to pursue a career in dance and generics.
She loves to read and enjoys the sciences. Her favorite ballets are Swan Lake and
Giselle and her favorite ballet company is American
Ballet Theater.

Vitaliy Vysotsky
Vitaliy Vysotsky began his dance
career at the Odessa Ballet School in Odessa, Ukraine
where he studied ballet and folk dance, jazz and tap.
Upon graduation he danced in all major ballet projects
at the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater as a ballet
dancer. He also directed the Youth Dance School for
performances around Russia. Vitaliy came to San
Francisco in 1996 where he danced for the Neva Dance
Group which is part of the world renown Moiseyev Dance
Company in Moscow. He most recently has choreographed
and danced with the Bay Shore Lyric Opera in the opera,
Die Fledermaus. We feel very fortunate to have a
Russian dancer of his caliber in our production. We are
sure our audience will enjoy his exhilarating Russian.

Emilienne Salisz
Emilienne
is an eighth grade honors student at Veritos
Preparatory Academy. She loves to sing, play the piano
and listen to music. Emmie has participated with
Camp Broadway for two seasons and has won recognition
for her writing at the state level. She enjoys
the theatre arts and aspires to be a professional
ballet dancer. Emmie danced with MBR for five
years and has performed the roles of Child Act I,
Mouse, Soldier, Angel, Waltz. This year, she will dance
Snow Corps and enchant us as the sparkling Merleton.

Saki Taniguchi (Dewdrop)
Saki is a student at Thunderbird
High School in the 10th grade where she is
in the honors program. In her first Nutcracker, ten
years ago, Saki danced as the Little Mouse and
Polichenelle. She has also performed in the roles of
Child Act I, Harlequin Doll, Chinese, as well as Snow & Waltz Corps. Last year she danced the demanding roles of
Snow Queen and Arabian. This year she will delight
audiences as the vibrant Dewdrop Fairy.
Christion Smalley (Dewdrop Cavalier)
Christion grew up in San Diego, California and danced
under the direction of Sylvia Palmer and Anita Ardalan
at Black Mountain Dance Center. He has also trained
with Joffery Ballet, ABT, Ballet Austin and was a full
time scholarship student at Houston Ballet Academy for
2 years. After moving to Phoenix, Christion began his
studies under the direction of Nina Marlow. For the
last two years he was a company member with Ballet
Arizona and danced in such ballets as, Swan Lake,
Sleeping Beauty, Don Quiote, La
Bayadere, Prodigal Son and Slaughter on
10th Ave to name a few. We are excited
to have Christion back at MBT performing as Dewdrop
Cavalier.

SUGAR PLUM & SNOW CAVALIER
SLAWOMIR WOZNIAK
is
the principal dancer with the Theatre Wielki in Warsaw,
Poland. He began his early ballet training in the
Warsaw School with teachers from Bolshoi and Kirov
schools in Russia. Later he studied at the state Ballet
School in Poznan, where he became a soloist with the
Wroclaw Opera Ballet in 1986. Slawomir then moved to
the Grand Treatre in Lodz where in 1989 he received the
title of principal dancer. In 1991, he joined the Grand
Theatre Ballet in Warsaw. Slawomir is the 1990 Bronze
medal recipient from the prestigious New York City
Ballet Competition, as well as the Bronze medal
recipient of the 1992 Japanese International Ballet
Competition. Slawomir comes from a theatrical family in
Warsaw. He is married to a ballerina in the Theatre
Wielki and is the father of two boys. His most famous
part has been John in Lorca Massine’s “Zorba the
Greek,” which he was nominated for the title of
Sensation of the Year 1992 by Dance magazine in France.
Slawomir recently danced this lead role in “Zorba the
Greek” in Italy and on many other foreign tours. At the
1998 Choreography Workshops at the Grand Theatre in
Warsaw, he prepared his first choreography, “Only Love”
to the music of Albinoni. Slawomir debuted another
ballet he choreographed about the life of Nijinsky with
his son Slawomir Jr. dancing the role of Nijinsky as a
child which received rave reviews in November 2001.
Ballet & Friends feels privileged to have Mr. Wozniak
perform in his 12th production of Nutcracker.

Plum Fairy
NICOLE MAPLE
is a 16-year-old sophomore at North
Canyon High School and will be graduating in the year
2005. She has studied with Nina Marlow School of Ballet
for the past 9 years. Starting as a Gnome in her first
Nutcracker, Nicole soon advanced to the roles of
Soldier, Child Act I, Fritz, Soldier Doll, Waltz and
Snow Corps, and Dewdrop Fairy. She has also performed
as the breathtaking Snow Queen and this year will
repeat the enchanting role of Sugar Plum Fairy. A
member of the National Jr. Honor Society, Nicole also
enjoys computers, swimming, diving, and reading. In the
future, she aspires to become a professional dancer. |

SAKI TANIGUCHI
has performed with the Marlow
Ballet Theatre for the past 9 years. In her first
Nutcracker, Saki danced as the Little Mouse and
Polichenelle. She has also performed the roles of Child
Act I, Harlequin Doll and Waltz and Snow Corps. Last
year Saki thrilled her audiences as the animated
Chinese. Her favorite ballets are Don Q and Swan Lake.
This past summer Saki had the opportunity to visit and
take classes with her favorite ballet company, American
Ballet Theatre. She is a freshman at Thunderbird High
School where she is presently taking honors classes in
English, Math and Biology while attending Japanese
school. During her spare time, Saki enjoys reading,
drawing and playing the piano.
